Getting Halo 3 out early will kick off 360 sales for the holiday season

Finally something to chew on. When Microsoft
representatives confirmed Halo 3’s launch in fall, with no specific month or day, it was also confirmed indirectly that Bungie’s FPS would be released either in September, October or November (most likely in November). Well, big ass publisher and big ass developer (tight with Microsoft) have told IGN that Microsoft has set the release date for the third installment in the series in September.

Up until now, it was assumed that Halo 3 was probably going to launch in late fall, November. It looks like anxious fans are going to get their long waited FPS 2 months early. Nothing has been confirmed officially though.

Some time ago, I called the Xbox 360 “the lucky console,” in regards to the Halo series being a huge part of its success. The coming of Halo 3 in September will mark something like a second launch for the Xbox 360. 2 months before and after the game’s release, Microsoft will more than likely sell record numbers of 360s, especially in October, November and up until Christmas.

Sounds like a good strategy on Microsoft’s behalf, doesn’t it? You’d be tempted to say: “yeah, it’s coming in September for sure, everything adds up,” but that’d be you not wanting to believe that it isn’t coming. And it doesn’t matter that much when it launches as Microsoft is going to sell tons of machines even if fans had to wait for another year to get their precious Halo 3.
