Many analysts are predicting that Apple may be having plans to enter into game hardware market with new console or device. Existing product line of Apple, offers good options to play the games. iPhone has been touted to be the good gaming device as well apart from being a phone. Apple buys the content from third-party developers who test and run the games. Apple markets the games bundling with the phone and it is a win-win situation for both. It is not clear which type licensing Apple is following for these games and distribution. The current hardware capabilities of Apple point to the possibilities of Apple’s entry into active market of video games. If the speculations are true, Apple will not become another publisher for the games. Since it is primarily a hardware developer, the new console with higher capabilities might come in to the market. Apple may succeed in the market if it comes with the devices which are more than game only consoles.
Sony and Microsoft has the consoles which can only be used for playing games. Apples products such as iPhone and iPod touch are good examples for the industry that a gaming device can do more than offering the games only. In recent move, Apple announced some new offerings at its App Store for new games which can be bought online and uploaded to the phone. Apple has created niche market for its products and the third party developers have been hired to develop the games for Apple platform only. Apple has die-hard fans of its products. If Apple introduces a gaming console in the market, certainly it is going to be the winner in the market. Apple do not have history of failed products. It is all products have sold well in the market. Apple fans will make the new offerings really successful in the market.
