The insanely catchy tracks of Lumines II revealed
Every once in a while there are games that do not resemble anything that had been done before, practically rewriting expectations by creating a new genre. When it comes to the PlayStation Portable, few titles managed such an impressive feat. Yet one is about to strike back with a sequel, introducing Q Entertainment’s eagerly awaited light and sound flurry: Lumines II. Casual and hardcore gamers alike are once again called to arms, in the combo making frenzy initiated by the original title, a huge and addictive success. Director and designer Ryuichi Hattori of the series admits the team didn’t reinvent the wheel as far as puzzle-games are concerned, yet Lumines managed to change the player’s perception further than any game before. As anyone that’s been playing the original Lumines knows, music is the key to the overall package, as Lumines II features roughly 20 vocal audio and video tracks.

The playlist gathered under the same banner a diverse blend of upbeat club tracks, pop hits, and hip-hop singles. Expect songs in the vein of “Star Guitar” by the Chemical Brothers, “Bottle Rocket” by the Go! Team, “Black Tambourine” by Beck, “Regret” by New Order, “Breezer” by Junkie XL, “Hollaback Girl” by Gwen Stefani, “Born to Lead” by Hoobastank, “Gangster Trippin'” by Fatboy Slim, “Pump It” by the Black Eyed Peas, and “Take My Time” by Junior Senior.

Following “Shinin”, the catchy soundscape of Lumines, Mondo Grosso returns with yet another hit. The new track was specifically written for the game’s reiteration, unlike “Shinin” which has already been released on CD, prior to game launch. Should you think the contagious energy, melody and mood “Shinin” instilled in the player could not be toped, this fresh track clearly outshines the elder star. Additional music is provided by Rez soundtrack veteran and techno pioneer Ken Ishii, along with Tokyo nightclub mainstays TechRider, so expect nothing short of the best insanely catchy sounds in Lumines II.
