No more canned animation data: ‘Every football tackle is your tackle. Every haymaker is your haymaker’

Rockstar is a development division of video game publisher Take Two Interactive. The brand is most known for titles such as the Grand Theft Auto series. Now, the guys over at Rockstar have thought how to make their GTA series even better looking than it already is. How? Euphoria. NaturalMotion, the developers
of 3D animation technology based on Dynamic Motion Synthesis, announced euphoria, a significant breakthrough in run-time animation technology for game play and development on next-generation platforms, including Playstation3, Xbox 360

Torsten Reil, CEO of NaturalMotion, says: “Every time euphoria synthesizes what happens on the screen you know that no player has seen it before. It makes every game your unique experience. Every football tackle is your tackle. Every haymaker is your haymaker. It’s not canned animation data, it’s you. These unique game moments are what next-generation games are all about.”

Star Wars Force Unleashed and the new Indiana Jones game already use them and below, you have a small technology demo that clearly shows euphoria’s potential. The characters are thrown into the environment to simply see what happens each time. Although it is endorphin that handles the AI, euphoria is a fine tailored coat for it. With euphoria, canned animation is replaced by a full simulation of the 3D character, thus producing unprecedented interactivity and unique game moments.
