The Starshatter universe just got bigger

Matrix Games and Destroyer Studios just announced Starshatter: The Gathering Storm, the expansion planned for the Starshatter sci-fi combat simulator game. Developers further enhanced the gameplay concept of classic simulator games by combining fighter and starship combat in one single experience. You begin the game as either a fighter pilot or the captain of a small Frigate-class starship. As you progress through the game, you can earn promotions and awards until you are commanding a massive fleet carrier with three wings of fighters and a complete escort of warships.

You begin the game as either a fighter pilot or the captain of a small Frigate-class starship. As you delve deeper into the game, you
can eventually earn enough promotions and awards that will enable you to command a massive fleet carrier with three wings of fighters, along with a complete warship escort. Being the admiral, you have an entire fleet at your disposal. Escorting destroyers and frigates will do your bidding by either engaging enemy starships or defending the fleet from fighter attacks. Playing the airborne fighter, you can take-off and land at planetary bases firsthand. Dogfights will test your skill as well as your ship and bombing missions will require you to use air-to-ground missiles to annihilate ground targets.

The dynamic mission system makes sure each and every campaign plays differently than the other, enhancing the replay ability of the title. Developers borrowed the concept from role playing games and came up with a non-linear disposition of game elements. This way, missions are generated based on what went on until this certain point in time. Character actions are to be taken into consideration so everything you do has an impact on the further development of the story. Mission paths are available, thus you don’t have to go walk the same road twice, should you decide to start over. Starshatter: The Gathering Storm provides a strong space sim platform for moders, since it supports such different play styles. Thus, developers are sure their tools can successfully recreate any of the major sci-fi universes players can think of.
