Nearing the end of a 17-hour wait for our PS3s.
Right now we’re sitting near the front of a very long line of future PlayStation 3 owners at the tried-and-true Shibuya Tsutaya store in Tokyo. It’s 2:45am, and there are roughly 200 people behind us at the moment–all confirmed to be getting a PS3 (though we imagine many of the folks near the back will be stuck with a 20GB unit, as the 60GBs will no doubt sell out the fastest).
Interestingly enough, all the “hot tips” pointed us toward the Bic Camera stores in either Yurakucho or Ikebukuro, where the grand master of all things PlayStation, Ken Kutaragi himself, was set to be making appearances. But we instead decided to stick close to home and give Tsutaya a shot, and our gamble paid off. We started the line at 1:30pm and managed to hold it the whole way through (nearly 17 hours by the end), while those who went to Yurakucho were shunned away by police, and those who went to Ikebukuro were confronted with a line of over 200 people before the sun even set. Ouch.
