You can’t just walk into a Best Buy and buy ’em.

Good news: Nintendo’s confirmed component cables enabling 480p output will in fact be available at Wii’s launch.

Bad news: much like the PS3, the privelege of playing in glorious widescreen is going to cost you, and Nintendo’s adding some inconvenience, to boot.

This latest tidbit comes courtesy of IGN and is certainly good news for owners of decent televisions, who’ve been waiting since Nintendo announced the Wii would NOT ship with 480p component cables out of the box.

The cables will be available for purchase as of the Wii’s official launch date at a cost of $29.99, according to Nintendo, but, weirdly, if you want to buy one you’ll have to do it over the Internet. Why? Nintendo’s only selling the cables through online channels. Companies that should have plenty in stock include Nintendo’s Official store, Best Buy, Circuit City and EB Games.

While the business logic behind that particular decision is certainly questionable, it’s still comforting to know that widescreen 480p Twilight Princess action is on track for November 19th.
